COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been exposed to COVID 19 or diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition on the COVID 19 Notification Form (available via a link on the Student Code of Conduct COVID19 webpage). Course Information
Description Application of communication theory to interpersonal relationship development, maintenance, and termination in relationship contexts including friendships, romantic partners, families, and relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
Prerequisites No Prerequisites
Learning Outcomes Exhibit understanding of interpersonal theories and principles.

Demonstrate ability to analyze and critique verbal and nonverbal interactions in mediated and face-to-face
contexts.

Identify perceptual processes as they relate to self and others.

Demonstrate critical thinking ability by effectively researching, evaluating, and applying communication
theories in oral and/or written assignments.

Demonstrate understanding of the relevance of cross-cultural, co-cultural, gender, and age influences on
human communication.

Demonstrate ability to identify, evaluate, and apply conflict styles and conflict management techniques in
dyads and/or groups.

Identify types of and barriers to effective listening.
Core Objectives Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral, or visual communication.

Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts, and constructing solutions.

Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view.

Course Policies
Instructor Policies Late work is not accepted.

Do not be tardy to class to complete an assignment. The assignment will not be accepted because it is late plus you will be marked tardy.

Work must be typed and use correct grammar and spelling. Times New Roman or Calibri 12 pt. font.

Assignments not completed following directions (including improper submission) will receive a grade of zero.

Plagiarism is not tolerated. First Offense - minimum failure of the assignment for the first offense. Future offenses - result in a grade of F for the course. The instructor reserves the right to regrade any previous work if plagiarism is discovered.

I will discuss grades and other sensitive subjects with you only in a one-to-one office visit.

I will grade your work within 7 working days.

Monday through Friday I will respond to emails within 24 hours. I do not guarantee availability or a response on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

This course may address topics sensitive to some students. Students will display mature behavior in the classroom, be responsible for their actions, and treat their classmates, instructor, and self with respect at all times.
Attendance Policy Daily attendance is required. There are no excused or unexcused absences, except ECHS school activiy. The student must notify the instructor of absence BEFORE class time for consideration of make-up work. Attendance will be checked each class and submitted to ECHS administration.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.

  2. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission.
